Do you have someone in your life you are connected to in some type of relationship? Maybe a friend, a co-worker, a lover, a wife a husband a best friend for life? I have discovered somethings about relationships this past year..my own relationships. Ones that i have, new ones i am making…and one I have lost. You see, we are made up of three parts. We have the physical, the soul or emotions and intellect and we have a spirit. Of course you might not believe in all three mostly because the third you cant really prove and you either believe it or not. Call it faith or what ever. But I have found that we connect with people more or less on at least one and sometimes two and rarely on all three of these levels.
The physical is the easiest to connect on. We use our senses and touch and feel and see and smell and sometimes even taste each other! It is very satisfying and even if it is just a hug or a hand shake, it allows us to connect with others on a very basic level. Meeting a basic need is also why we as humans tend to fall in bed with each other also! We like to think it should only happen in the context of a marriage or life long relationship but the truth is that is that people just want to feel connected and well sex connects us pretty well. It can and often does lead to a broken heart because of the next connections point!
The soul or our emotion or intellect also can connect us. (a big combo in us!) So I know I am at first attracted with looks…as far as a female goes. Guys is just…well…we are guys. But after the initial attraction, this area kicks in big time. If I don’t connect emotionally or intellectually with someone, well they will just be an acquaintance that i know. And since I am a very creative person, someone who I can create with is HUGE! I know because it happen with a best friend of mine! We connected so well and much of it was due to both of us being creative and just fitting together so well. Our souls connected and it was relaxing and comfortable. Is this a soul mate? I am not sure, but the best is when friends and people can connect on multiple levels. To have our souls and our emotions connect…which if deep enough…can lead bad or good to physical connections…all of this can lead to some very satisfying life long relationships! At least that is the way it is suppose to work!
The third area is the spiritual connections. That illusive area of our selves that we seldom have connection with ourselves and wonder if it exists or just a dream. I have s spirit and i firmly believe that i have connected with certain people at this level. Not everyone…in fact…very very few. And perhaps at the time we didnt realize it but it did give a depth and richness to the relationship that was beyond explaining. A relationship that goes beyond age and society norms and expectations. Something that touches the core of who we are as human and spiritual beings. Something I long to have in my life.
Now put all three of these together…and that is a relationship worth everything in the world! something you can’t forget about and makes life exciting and worth living no matter what happens. The perfect trifecta of a relationship. But even the best of relationships don’t always last. Some are just for a season and then it moves on like a refreshing breeze on a hot summer day.
Not that I don’t miss that cool breeze…but life moves on. And I keep trying to smile each day.
